Prompt: Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt Response A time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on me was when my mom had a conversation with me about manifestation. The conversation was about how you can achieve anything if you manifest and believe in yourself. Sometimes I believe some things seem too crazy to attain. My mom told me how I'm greater than I perceive myself and that if you believe something can happen, it will. These words had a lasting impact on me as it changed the way I navigate life. Now, I try not to compare myself to others because I realize that there are different ways to reach a certain goal. I also try not to doubt or put myself down when trying to achieve something. If I want to make something happen, then I have to stay positive. This conversation made me realize that the only thing stopping me from doing something I want, is myself. This conversation’s lasting impact shows how words can be powerful. Summary: Today in class, we answered our blog post. Reflection: Today was fun due to t...

Prompt: Today, you had the opportunity to express yourself through poetry. Reflect on your creative writing process. What did you find most enjoyable or challenging about turning your thoughts into a poem? Did this assignment change the way you think about poetry or creative writing? Explain your experience.

Prompt Response: I found coming up with my topic the most enjoyable part. There’s so many different things you can write about. The most difficult part was trying to find rhymes that made sense. I’m not the best with creative writing so I somewhat found the entire poem to be difficult to write. I’m good at coming up with ideas, but not executing them. This assignment made me realize how much effort poets put into their work. I don’t believe I could ever make a poem as good as some of the most notable writers. Summary: Today in class, we wrote our own poem. Reflection:  I found class to be a bit difficult because I’m not good at writing poetry.

Prompt: Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt Response:  A time I stepped out of my comfort zone was the first time riding a "big girl" roller coaster. Before this moment, I was terrified of roller coasters. I was so afraid of getting on one that I would cry anytime my parents tried to get me to go on one. But, one time I decided to go to Six Flags Over Georgia with my friends. It was a group of us, so I didn't want to be the only one not getting on rides. I never told them I was afraid because I didn't want to seem like a wuss. I ended up facing my fears and got on all the rides I was previously scared of. Summary: Today in class, we answered questions on "Constantly Risking Absurdity." Reflection: I found this poem to be one of the easiest we’ve read so far so the questions weren’t too hard.

Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Prompt Response:  When I was writing a poem for an assignment, I found it to be difficult to start. I believe this is because, in the past, I've read poems that have such deep meanings that it's crazy that someone created them. So, when writing my own, I compare my writing to poems I've previously read. I've tried to be intentional and make sure that my writing has a deeper meaning than what is seen on the surface. But, this is way harder than it seems. I don't think I've ever been completely happy when any of my poems because I can't create something with multiple or deeper meanings.  Summary: Today in class, we read a poem by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and analyzed its meaning. Reflection:  I enjoyed class today because I liked watching the acrobats and Charlie Chaplin videos.

Prompt: Today, your group had to work together to earn 100% on the “A Worn Path” assessment or write an essay. How did this challenge affect the way your group discussed the story and made decisions? What did you learn from the experience?

Prompt Response: Usually in group projects or settings most people don’t participate. But, in this moment I noticed that everyone made sure to add their input the conversation. Since nobody wanted to write an essay, we made sure to look over each question and answer carefully. Each of my group members made sure to explain their reasonings for their selections. I learned that talking with a group can help you understand a certain topic better. I also learned that this type of communication can make you more comfortable and confident in decision making. Summary: Today in class, we took a test in groups for the goal of making a one hundred percent. Reflection: I found class interesting today because I’ve never taken a group test before. I surprisingly liked the concept.

Think about a time when you had to travel somewhere or work through obstacles to reach a destination or goal. What challenges did you face along the way? Was the journey worth it in the end? Explain why or why not.

Prompt Response: A few weeks ago, I attended DragonCon with my friends. After we stayed at the convention for a while, we decided that we'd go to Ponce City Market to go get lunch. Ponce City Market was too far of a walk, so that meant we had to take Marta. On the way to the train station our group somehow got spilt up and only half of us got to the station. From there I had to FaceTime the ones that didn't make it and lead them to the station. Once we fully entered the station and boarded the train, we faced many obstacles. This journey would be too long to explain in detail, so i’ll leave it here. But, ultimately I do think this trip was worth it because I gained some great memories with my friends. Summary: Today in class, we worked on a worksheet based on "A Worn Path" and discussed our answers in groups. Reflection: I found class interesting because it was cool to see how everyone can interpret words differently.

In “A Worn Path,” Phoenix has a memorable encounter and conversation with the hunter during her journey. Think about a conversation you have had that had a lasting impact on you. What was the conversation about, and how did it change your thinking, perspective, or actions?

Prompt Response:  A conversation that had a lasting impact on me was one I had with my mom. The conversation was about how you can achieve anything if you manifest and believe in yourself. Sometimes I believe some things seem too crazy to attain. My mom told me how I'm greater than I perceive myself and that if you believe something can happen, it will. This changed the way I navigate life, as now I try not to compare myself to others because I realize that there are different ways to reach a certain goal. I also try not to doubt or put myself down when trying to achieve something. If I want to make something happen, then I have to stay positive. This conversation made me realize that the only thing stopping me from doing something I want, is myself. Summary: Today in class, we began reading "A Worn Path" by Eudora Welty. Reflection: I enjoyed reading this story because I appreciated how Phonenix didn't let anything stop her from reaching Natchez.
