In “A Worn Path,” Phoenix has a memorable encounter and conversation with the hunter during her journey. Think about a conversation you have had that had a lasting impact on you. What was the conversation about, and how did it change your thinking, perspective, or actions?

Prompt Response:

A conversation that had a lasting impact on me was one I had with my mom. The conversation was about how you can achieve anything if you manifest and believe in yourself. Sometimes I believe some things seem too crazy to attain. My mom told me how I'm greater than I perceive myself and that if you believe something can happen, it will. This changed the way I navigate life, as now I try not to compare myself to others because I realize that there are different ways to reach a certain goal. I also try not to doubt or put myself down when trying to achieve something. If I want to make something happen, then I have to stay positive. This conversation made me realize that the only thing stopping me from doing something I want, is myself.

Summary: Today in class, we began reading "A Worn Path" by Eudora Welty.

Reflection: I enjoyed reading this story because I appreciated how Phonenix didn't let anything stop her from reaching Natchez.
